Celebrating the Drama with the Cast of ‘Vanderpump Rules’

October 20th, 2016 by Jessica Tardif

No drinks were thrown in the recording of this interview.

After four drama-filled seasons, Lisa Vanderpump’s ridiculously attractive restaurant staff has created somewhat of a cult following, including A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen. “Vanderpump Rules” has long-been praised by critics and fans for its authentic look at a group of friends who also happen to all be aspiring actors and models working a 40-hour week in the booze-and-glamour-filled business that is the LA restaurant scene. Throw in countless uncensored moments, crisscrossing love lives, and a whole lot of epic throw downs and it’s easy to see why it’s become such a guilty favorite. But for this cast the stakes are real and the stakes are high, when causing drama could result in risking friendships, relationships, or even their jobs.

With a new season just around the corner, we had the chance to sit down with some of the cast members to get their juiciest dating advice, the scoop on their no-nonsense boss, and a sneak peek into an explosive Season 5.

Hulu: First date – just drinks or full dinner?

Stassi Schroeder: Totally just drinks, in case that person’s a serial killer and you need to get the f*ck out of there.

Tom Schwartz: I’m a just drinks guy. I’m rusty, it’s been a while, but I was always just a just drinks guy.

Scheana Marie: Full dinner.

James Kennedy: I would definitely say full dinner and drinks, and suggest somewhere with a great atmosphere. You want to make sure there’s a wide variety of food so there’s less room for failure.

Hulu: What’s your best piece of dating advice?

Kristen: To be totally open; don’t be jaded, but have a little bit of a wall. Just be smart.

Scheana: Communicate – find out about the other person, because you might not like them after the first date.

Schwartz: Best dating advice is having drinks when you’re on a date. I don’t want to sound like a lush, but I can’t go on a date sober.

James: Always make a girl feel special no matter what… And make friends with her friends, because it’s easier when the friends like you.

Hulu: Give us one word to describe Lisa Vanderpump as a boss.

Kristen: Tough. She’s a tough cookie.

Stassi: Scary.

Schwartz: Dreamy. She floats into the room.

Scheana: Perfectionist.

James: Inspiring.

What separates Vanderpump Rules from other Bravo series?

Kristen: I think what separates Vanderpump from any other docuseries is that we actually are friends and our drama is real because we have history. We love to hate, hate to love, and we love to love.

Schwartz: We. Have. No. Shame. Or do we? We. Have. No. Inhibitions… We’re pretty raw.

Hulu: Can you give us a sneak peek into any drama or shenanigans on season 5?

Kristen: Oh boy can I? I think viewers are really going to love seeing the journey that Tom and Katie had to go through in planning a wedding in twelve weeks. Obviously everyone knows that they do get married, but I think whether you’re single, with someone, engaged, or married, everyone goes through those trials and tribulations. I think the dynamic between my boyfriend and I and Tom and Ariana is interesting. Something to watch out for.

Stassi: I get to go to Montauk for my birthday and try and be single and it’s maybe disastrous.

Schwartz: I think I completely fell apart, but in the end [spoiler alert!] I was able to put those pieces back together. I know it’s going to be a good season because I’m way too embarrassed to watch it.

Scheana: The usual, girl-on-girl verbal fights.

James: You’ll be meeting my girlfriend this season, which is pretty exciting. Obviously what goes on in Sur is very secretive. It’s just a lot of drama, but it’s good. You see the wedding at the end of that, which has its own f*cking drama.

Hulu: What can viewers expect to see in Season 5?

Kristen: Season 5 – a lot of love, fun trips, drunken shenanigans, and surprises.

Stassi: I feel like they can expect to see a whole different dynamic, and something that they haven’t seen before. It’s like everything has come full circle.

Schwartz: Heads will roll, tears will flow, and boobs will show.

Scheana: Lots of wedding planning, lots of tears – more from the men than the women.

So raise your glasses high to Seasons 1-4 of Vanderpump Rules, now streaming on Hulu. An all-new season returns to Bravo on November 7th at 9/8c.
