5 Sketch Predictions for the Saturday Night Live Premiere

Tonight’s host Margot Robbie, with musical guest The Weeknd.

Saturday Night Live” returns for Season 42 on October 1st with host Margot Robbie, musical guest The Weeknd, and three new cast members. The “SNL” season premiere often features some of the best sketches of the year and the political and pop culture developments that have gone down since the Season 41 finale in May have given the writers plenty of fodder to comedically ruminate on over the summer.

Although we’re pretty sure the premiere will feature some bizarro bits we’d never dream up in a million years (at least we hope so), we have a couple predictions for sketches that could make the cut.

This one is a no-brainer (insert your own Smart Alec remark about politicians with no brains here). The 2016 presidential campaign has been one of the weirdest, wildest, most inherently ridiculous races in the history of our nation. With Monday night’s first debate drawing an estimated 80 million viewers, we’re all dying to see what “SNL” does with this. We’re fantasizing about a sketch where the podiums go flying off the stage and Trump and Clinton just go ahead and fight it out gladiator style. And we wouldn’t be opposed to a Larry David/Bernie Sanders cameo either.

With “Suicide Squad” star Margot Robbie as host, the “SNL” writers have got to be playing around with ideas for a Harley Quinn sketch at this very moment. There’s a lot of ways they could go with this one. Maybe Harley Quinn scores a gig at Sephora and ends up giving everyone who comes in a makeover that’s suspiciously similar to her own look. Maybe she keeps her current look, but decides to go back into the psychiatry field and we get to peek in on her first session with a new patient. Maybe we flash forward to see what life is like for the Suicide Squad when they’re elderly and residing in assisted living. We’ve got a million of these…

Now that it’s officially fall, the pumpkin spice is seriously pumping at a high priced coffee shop near you. Pumpkin spice has become so popular that it’s a straight up meme now. We thought it might be a great idea for the Spice Girls to reunite with an all new member—Pumpkin Spice played by Margot Robbie: she’s heavily caffeinated, loves tights and sweater weather, and what she really really wants is to spread autumnal cheer far and wide. It would also be pretty fun to see some of the other “SNL” ladies play the original Spice Girls now 20 years or so after their prime.

Last season’s “Walking Dead” finale featuring Negan wielding a baseball bat at an as-yet-unknown main character has had us biting our nails all summer long. We think it’d be a pretty great sketch if it turned out that all Negan really wanted was to play a good old game of baseball with his new buddies. How great would a Humans vs. Zombies World Series be? We see Margot Robbie in the role of a melodramatic Maggie.

Is it just us or does the gorgeous Margot Robbie look a whole lot like Maxine Stuart—the bombshell in bandages from that very first episode of “The Twilight Zone” known as “The Eye of the Beholder”? If you’re unfamiliar with the episode, it features a young woman being told by her doctors that she’s been given surgery to correct her facial deformities. When the bandages are removed, we see a beautiful woman, but the entire medical staff is repulsed by her and proclaims there has been no change to her condition. Then, we see that the medical staff and the rest of the “normal” people in the world have distorted pig-like faces. Since Robbie is such an obvious knockout, we thought it could be fun to see “SNL” take on the current Hollywood plastic surgery craze by parodying this sketch and having an “as is” Robbie be ridiculed by a bevy of over-Botoxed, collagen-trified “SNL” cast.
