An Exhaustive Guide to Every South Park Video Game Reference

July 22nd, 2016 by Will Brown

At this point, whether you’re an avid South Park fan or just a casual viewer, the World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero episodes are pretty much legend. But did you know that Trey Parker and Matt Stone have referenced a ton of other video games over their nineteen Seasons?

In honor of the upcoming Season 20, I went back and compiled a list of every episode where South Park directly alludes to real-world video games.

Real-World Game References:

“1%” – Batman: Arkham City

In “1%”, Cartman discovers that someone has broken into his room. Luckily for him, his storm-trooper watch and copy of Batman: Arkham City for the Xbox 360 were left untouched.

“The Ungroundable” – Call of Duty: World at War

In “The Ungroundable”, Cartman and his classmates are all seen playing Call of Duty: World at War on their computers during class.

“#REHASH” – Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

In “#REHASH”, Ike is seen watching YouTube star PewDiePie commenting on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

“Margaritaville” – Grand Theft Autho: ChinaTown Wars

In the classic “Margaritaville”, Cartman offers to turn in his friend without hesitation; all he asks for in return is “Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars for hand-held Nintendo DS.”

Let Go, Let Gov” – Grand Theft Auto: V

In “Let Go, Let Gov”, Cartman goes online to look for a copy of Grand Theft Auto V.

“You’re Getting Old”- L.A. Noire

One of the more obscure video game references, in “You’re Getting Old” Cartman, Kyle, and Kenny are seen playing the 2011 hit game L.A. Noire.

“Guitar Queer-O” – Guitar Hero

Who could forget the episode, “Guitar Queer-O” where Stan and Kyle become Guitar Hero masters, whatever that’s worth.

“Black Friday” – Metal Gear Solid V

Perhaps one of the subtler video game references in the series, in Part 1 of the “Black Friday” trilogy Metal Gear Solid V is mentioned as being part of the PlayStation “Brack Friday Bunduru”.

“Tweek x Craig” – Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

In “Tweek x Craig”, Tweek and Craig are spotted playing Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate together.

“Informative Murder Porn” – Minecraft

Harkening back to the famous “Make Love, Not Warcraft”, in “Informative Murder Porn” Trey Parker and Matt Stone once again experiment with capturing in-game footage to tell their stories.

“Whale Whores” – RockBand

Not to be confused with the famous “Guitar Queer-O” episode, in “Whale Whores” Cartman sings a beautiful rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”.

Sexual Healing” – Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2011

Yes, South Park went there. In the Season 14 premiere titled, “Sexual Healing”, Trey Parker and Matt Stone give their own personal, dark twist on the famous Tiger Woods PGA Tour game franchise.

“Broadway Bro Down” – Settlers of Catan

Although not originally a video game, in “Broadway Bro Down” Shelly can briefly be seen playing the famous board game Settlers of Catan with her boyfriend.

“Make Love, Not Warcraft” – World of Warcraft

Perhaps the most iconic video game reference in South Park history, “Make Love, Not Warcraft” heavily features in-game footage from the timeless MMORPG World of Warcraft.
