It’s such an exciting time to be at Hulu. In just the past few months, we’ve had the pleasure of announcing new, premium Hulu Originals, including CASUAL, a comedy series from Jason Reitman and 11/22/63, an original event series from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, based on Stephen King’s best-selling book.
Today, we are adding yet another exciting title to that list with the announcement of our straight-to-series order for Difficult People – a half hour comedy series produced by Amy Poehler and starring Julie Klausner (Billy on the Street) and Emmy®-nominated Billy on the Street host Billy Eichner.
Difficult People comes to Hulu in our first collaboration with Universal Cable Productions. This hilarious series follows Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner as best friends and struggling comedians in New York City who can’t figure out why they aren’t likeable. Klausner wrote the pilot and will also serve as an executive producer for the series alongside Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Dave Becky (Louie).
When I first joined Hulu, I was excited to break new ground and continue to expand the offering of premium content that Hulu was built upon. Difficult People is one of those smart, distinctive comedy series that perfectly fits into our diverse slate of high-quality Hulu Originals.
Difficult People will start production early next year and we cannot wait to work with Universal Cable Productions to bring this series to life. With the comedic minds of Amy Poehler, Julie Klausner, Billy Eichner and Dave Becky behind it, we are confident that our viewers will love this show just as much as we do.
