As we expand our offering of premium original programming, we look for unique voices that can bring a memorable, distinct style to Hulu. With acclaimed, award-winning titles under his belt such as Up in the Air and Juno, Oscar® nominated Director Jason Reitman is definitely one of these storytellers. And, today, we are excited to announce that Reitman’s latest project will join our growing slate of Hulu Originals with our straight-to-series order for CASUAL.
CASUAL is a ten episode, single-camera, half-hour comedy series that follows the story of a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister. Together, they coach each other through the crazy world of dating (on-line and off), while living under one roof again and raising a teenager.
Reitman will executive produce CASUAL and will also direct the premiere episode, along with writer Zander Lehmann and Reitman’s production partner Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Young Adult). The series comes to us through Lionsgate Television and will debut on Hulu in 2015.
Many storytellers can weave an interesting plot, but few speak to audiences in a voice that is as relevant as it is wholly original. Jason Reitman and Zander Lehmann are such artists. With our recent announcement of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and – now – with CASUAL added to our upcoming slate, we are excited to continue working closely with immensely talented creators to bring compelling and original content to the Hulu audience.
Stay tuned for more updates around CASUAL and our growing slate of original programming.
