Hulu is built on great content, and we are proud of our diverse slate of distinctive, unique and high-quality exclusive Hulu Original shows like “Deadbeat,” “The Awesomes” and Emmy-nominated “Behind the Mask.” As we continue to invest in original programming, we are fortunate to have Beatrice Springborn joining the team as Head of Originals, starting this Monday. Beatrice has a strong background in television and a passion for Hulu. She will be at the helm to help us identify, initiate and drive the sourcing, development and production of premium shows in the Hulu Originals slate. Shows that are smart, distinctive and executed with the highest quality bar.
Beatrice comes to us with a wealth of great experience – she was most recently the head of television for Storyline Entertainment, where she developed and produced the MTV series “Happyland,” premiering this fall. Prior to Storyline, she was SVP for Caryn Mandabach Productions (“Peaky Blinders”) where she oversaw the development of genre and book-based series for the international marketplace. She was also the EVP of TV and film production and development at Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Motion Pictures which produced and developed “The Walking Dead” series.
With her diverse background in television entertainment, we are confident Beatrice is the perfect fit for Hulu, and the perfect person to spearhead the growth of our Originals business. I’m ecstatic to join the Hulu team as they continue to break new ground and build on the premium content they’ve been offering for years.”
At our Upfront this year, we announced that we are heavily investing in the development, production and launch of Hulu Originals. Last year we launched a slate of five Original shows (“Deadbeat,” “The Awesomes,” “East Los High,” “Behind the Mask,” “Quick Draw”) and they were so successful, we brought them all back this year for a second season. And over the next year, we will more than triple our content marketing spend to grow awareness for, and interest in, Hulu Originals. 2014 is shaping up to be a great year.
