Hulu is the best place for world-class builders. Hands down. Our business at its core is defined by the building and innovating that happens daily at Hulu. We have sought out that needle-in-a-haystack who is a leading example of a builder and innovator, and today I’m excited to introduce you to him. Please welcome Tian Lim, who will be joining the Hulu ranks as Chief Technology Officer. We are thrilled to have him on board to grow and scale Hulu’s technology.
I know those of you who have met Tian already are as enthusiastic as I am about what he brings to the table. Tian has led large, world-class engineering teams, most recently as SVP of Product Engineering at Sony Network Entertainment International. There, he oversaw all North American engineering and service operations, and led a team of hundreds of engineers. His team was responsible for leading client and service engineering for the PlayStation Store on the web, PS3 and PS4, and many of the network features of the PS4. We’ve enjoyed working with Tian’s team in this capacity, as PlayStation is a key living room device platform and distribution partner for Hulu Plus. Tian also spent eight years at Microsoft XBOX where in his last position, he led all development for the Xbox LIVE service, Xbox 360 operating system and Kinect.
We now serve over five million Hulu Plus subscribers, with roughly 50% of those subscribers streaming exclusively on devices, with living room viewing accounting for over half of all content consumption on the service. That’s in addition to our 30 million monthly users on the free Hulu service. Tian’s depth of experience working on the leading technology platforms and devices in the marketplace, will be invaluable as we scale and, simultaneously, continue to provide the best user experience possible across every platform – living room, mobile and web.
I’d like to take this moment to also thank Brad Suter for overseeing the technology team on an interim basis—he’s been a solid leader for many months, and will continue to be an integral part of our technology “DNA” here, reporting directly into Tian.
Under Tian’s leadership, with a world-class software development, operations and program management team behind him from our offices in Santa Monica to Seattle to Beijing, I know the future of our technology organization is extremely bright.
Tian will officially begin in two weeks on March 3rd. Let’s welcome Tian to the Hulu team!
