July 25th, 2013 by Tom McAlister Director, original program marketing

Over 100,000 genre fans gather each year for Comic-Con International: San Diego, the world’s leading pop culture convention.

Last Saturday, Comic-Con served as the ideal setting for Hulu to debut The Awesomes, the first animated Hulu Original Series.  This new comedy, which premieres August 1st on Hulu and Hulu Plus, follows a team of not-so-super heroes who are struggling to regain their former glory under new leadership.

Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker present “The Awesomes” at  Comic-Con.

Several awesome people took Comic-Con by storm to promote The Awesomes.  The group included series co-creator/executive producer/star Seth Meyers (SNL); co-creator and executive producer Mike Shoemaker (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon); consulting producer Judd Winick (Batman: Under The Red Hood); and cast members Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Taran Killam (SNL); Kenan Thompson (SNL), Josh Meyers (That ‘70s Show) and Bobby Moynihan (SNL).

Highlights of the day included:

     • Episode 1 screening of The Awesomes in front of 2,000 people
     • A raucous Q&A with the creators and cast, moderated by Chris Hardwick
     • Autograph signing with fans at the Xbox Lounge
     • A full day’s worth of press opportunities including interviews with Vanity Fair, Today, Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide and Entertainment Tonight to name only a few

Today through July 31st, episode 1 of The Awesomes will be available exclusively to Xbox Live users.  From a marketing perspective, this is an incredible sampling opportunity for a new television series, because it will expose Xbox Live’s U.S. users to The AwesomesAnd of course this exclusive window is also an illustration of the great, ongoing relationship between Hulu Plus and Xbox.

The first two episodes of The Awesomes will premiere next Thursday, August 1 on Hulu and Hulu Plus, with new episodes every subsequent Thursday.
