Fresh New Anime: Inuyasha – The Final Act

October 3rd, 2009 by Rebecca Harper Editor

Starting today, Hulu will begin streaming the final chapter of the InuYasha story: InuYasha – The Final Act. For the first time, our partners at VIZ Media are making these episodes available to fans stateside just a few hours after they air in Japan. We asked the company’s marketing ninja to kick things off with a little introduction. — Rebecca Harper (), Editor, Hulu

Can you feel that? It’s the bittersweet tingle of something long awaited and also, for many of us VIZ worker bees/fans, long feared. We are nearing the end of InuYasha anime! If you, the viewer, have stuck by Kagome and Inuyasha through all 167 episodes so far, then you know just how important InuYasha – The Final Act will be.

So we have the basic premise: the race for the last few shards of the all-powerful Shikon Jewel continues between Team InuYasha/Kagome and Team Naraku. Unfortunately for our heroes, Team Naraku is in the lead.

Since InuYasha is one of the longest running anime series in North America, it’s a bittersweet experience to see such a beloved title come to its inevitable conclusion. Some of us here have worked on this series for over six years! Still, from a fan perspective, we are happy to get closure on the different character story lines. Personally, I’m looking forward to some Sesshomaru-awesomeness. (IMHO, he’s such a great conflicted, yet calm, cool and collected anti-hero and I have an action figure complete with furry shoulder wrap to prove it.)

But the best part about InuYasha – The Final Act is also the worst part. The best part is that we are making the episodes available mere hours after being on air in Japan. It’s really cool to think that you and a fan in Japan are basically having the same experience within a short time period. The only downside is that we do have to work night and day in order to make it happen!

On that note, I’m going back to work. But before I do, I’d like to share good vibes and the most sincere wish from Team VIZ that you enjoy InuYasha – The Final Act!

Arigato! Arigato! Thank you thank you, for finishing the series! As some others have mentioned it would have been preferred if sections were not cut and the story not rushed, but it is much much much better then nothing. I watched all 167 episodes in a summer, got the end and it still wasn’t over! So much disappointment! Now at least there is an ending and a reward to my dedication! So thank you very much!

I’m so excited about this :) it’s going to be amazing, hands down. And what makes it better is the fact that I’ve waited so long. Sad that it has to end, though :( long live inuyasha!!!

I agree with the first comment i was happy when i heard they were going to finish the series but when i heard it would only be 26 episodes i was disappointed i thought for sure it would be a few more seasons if the content is cut or rushed it will be a real waste if its about the money it wouldn’t be smart to close it out so fast when you could make more money by doing it right just my opinion though hope i heard wrong

  • To be honest a lot of the people who have negative opinions about this show raise REALLY good points.

There was enough manga material to make 52 episodes and the complaints of only 26 are justified, no matter how much anyone argues that noone is entitled to complaints.

I as an american didnt care if the anime came back.
I was pissed and sad that this show ended with 167 episodes at one time. The reasons behind it made sense. Reasons being that the anime, caught up with the manga, and more time couldnt be needed to get new manga material because manga comes out every three or four months.

Four years later the manga ends, AND we get a new 30 minute Black Tessaiga special episode. The producers made it to celebrate an event, and I (or as every other fan should be) was simply appreciative of JUST that.

For me I didnt care if the anime came back, because I followed the storyline by watching the first series anime and then reading the manga to catch up on the story, instead of waiting years for another episode.

Thats why as soon as the new ONE Inuyasha Episode was made for the debut in the Shopping Center in Japan on June 30th 2008 I said to myself, I will enjoy the fact that we get one episode.

If the anime comes back good, if it doesnt than I can live with it.
If the anime comes back, I hope it will be great. Its gotta be good because that’s what viewers like: Quality

If instead Sunrise is half assing this show than thats a problem because Sunrise is not understanding the concept of Quality over Quantity. I may sound hypocritical given the number of Inuyasha Episodes now, but The way Americans work just by wanting more and more is not an excuse for entitlement. HOWEVER if its the way the execution is being done than the product needs to be questioned.

Take that advice to heart NOT as an anime fan, or manga fan, but as a person who is simply happy with what the franchise gives someone.

  • Inuyasha Lover who hates lazy atemps says:

You make us wait 3 yers for this half-ass atempt at finishing off those hundreds of chapters. 24 minutes a show and you cram a whole book worth into it. Skipping a bunch of things! Thats not even including the intro music, ending music, and preview of the next show. How can you be so happy with yourselves when you shatter hopes right after you make them. There should have been well over 100 more episodes and you know it but no you guys in both viz and japan deside to chop up are beloved show into a side dish just to try and make money. You should be ashamed. Oh and no I dont care that I mispelled stuff. Next time you plan to make a anime make it the right way. I hate seeing the show that got me into anime and manga abused like this expecially after crying 3 years ago that they left it at the dumb cliff hanger.
